Grief & Loss Therapy

Grief is the other side of love.

Grief is one of the hardest experiences we face as human beings.

When we lose someone we love, we are asked to adjust to a reality we did not choose and often cannot imagine.

Grieving is not about forgetting, letting go or “moving on.” It is a necessary process of learning how to carry our relationship differently—transitioning from a relationship with someone we could see, hear and touch to a connection that can continue even when they are no longer physically here.

The person may be gone from your physical life. The relationship does not have to end.

A Place for Your Grief

Grief needs somewhere to go.

Friends and family can be an important source of support, but grieving people often begin to worry about burdening others, repeating themselves or taking too long. The world may expect life to return to normal long before it feels normal to you.

Therapy offers something different: a safe, nonjudgmental space where your grief does not need to be edited, explained or rushed.

There is room for sadness, anger, longing, relief, guilt, confusion, love—and whatever else your loss brings.

Sometimes the most important thing we can do is simply hold that space with you.

Finding Your Way Forward

Holding space does not mean remaining still.

Alongside the opportunity to grieve, we offer tools and processes to help you care for yourself, navigate difficult moments and begin reconnecting with the rhythm of life.

Over time, grief asks us to find a way to hold both what has been lost and what is still here.

The goal is not to leave the person or experience behind. It is to find a way to carry what mattered forward while continuing to live, connect and find meaning.

There Is No Right Way to Grieve

Grief has its own rhythm. It may come in waves, change over time and appear when you least expect it.

Our work is not about telling you how you should grieve or how quickly you should feel differently. It is about helping you make room for what is true, understand what you need and find your way through a life that has changed.

You don't have to choose between remembering what you have lost and continuing to live. There can be room for both.

Grief Isn't Only About Death

We can grieve whenever something meaningful is lost or profoundly changed—particularly when the change was not of our choosing and feels imposed upon us.

Grief may follow:

  • The death of someone you love

  • Miscarriage, pregnancy loss or fertility challenges

  • The end of a relationship or marriage

  • Changes in health, ability or independence

  • Loss of a career, role or identity

  • Major life transitions

  • Changes within family relationships

  • Anticipatory grief when someone you love is seriously ill

  • Other losses that alter the life or future you expected

There is no requirement that a loss look a certain way for it to matter.

Why Choose DYLC for Grief Counselling?

At The Design Your Life Centre, our understanding of grief comes from both clinical expertise and profound human experience. Members of our team have accompanied individuals and families through some of life's most difficult circumstances, including hospice care and the realities of war.

We understand that grief is not a problem to be solved or an experience to be rushed. Sometimes the most important thing we can offer is the capacity to be fully present with another person's pain.

We also recognize that grief rarely exists in isolation. Loss can bring anxiety, depression, trauma, changes in identity and uncertainty about the future. Our clinical expertise allows us to support these challenges alongside the grieving process.

Through the Inside-Out Way, we help you care for yourself and find your way forward—not by leaving what you've lost behind, but by discovering how to carry what matters with you as you continue to live, connect and find meaning.
