The Inside-Out Way

The methodology behind every session at the Design Your Life Centre.

About Us

When things fall apart, you have an opportunity to build differently.

Life’s most difficult moments have a way of bringing our patterns into sharp focus. They reveal how we think, what we believe, and how we behave in ways that reinforce the very patterns that may no longer be serving us.

And that moment, when it feels like everything is falling apart, can become a powerful turning point.

When you can see the pattern clearly, you have a choice: to keep living inside it, or to step out of it. And in that space, you can begin to get clear about what you actually want your life to look and feel like.

The Inside-Out Way is our framework for helping you turn that moment of recognition into the power to consciously create what comes next.

Our framework, guiding every session.

Developed by Dr. Stacy Thomas over nearly three decades of clinical practice, The Inside-Out Way is the clinical framework that guides our work across The Design Your Life Centre.

It gives our clinicians a shared way of understanding where you are, what has shaped the patterns you are experiencing, and what you want to create moving forward.

Insight is only the beginning.

We help you recognize the patterns operating in your life, understand the beliefs that sustain them, clarify what you want to create instead, and develop new beliefs and aligned actions that support the new patterns you want to build.

Every clinician at The Design Your Life Centre is trained to work from this shared framework, creating consistency in how we understand and support meaningful change.

About Us

Evidence-based psychotherapy, personalized to you.

The Inside-Out Way provides the framework. Evidence-based psychotherapy gives us a range of tools to help you create change.

Our clinicians are trained in approaches including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Schema Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), EMDR, mindfulness-based psychotherapy, clinical hypnosis, and the Gottman Method for couples therapy.

Rather than applying one approach to every person, we thoughtfully integrate these methods based on your needs, your goals, and where you are in the process of change.

The result is psychotherapy grounded in psychological science and deeply responsive to you.

Your struggles are not random. They are invitations.

We are built to avoid pain. It is one of our most basic survival instincts. And yet, pain can also be one of our most profound teachers, bringing immediate clarity to what matters, what is no longer working, and what needs to change.

The patterns that keep repeating are often rooted in inherited stories, unconscious beliefs, and survival strategies that once served a purpose but may no longer align with who you are becoming.

Rather than simply helping you move away from what hurts, we help you become curious about what your struggles are revealing, and use that understanding to make more conscious choices about what comes next.

Core principles from Dr. Stacy

Our therapists are down-to-earth, deeply experienced, and genuinely in your corner. Whatever you're carrying, we'll meet you with compassion and walk with you toward a life that feels like yours.

What keeps repeating is not random.

The pattern surfaces when life makes it impossible to ignore. It is asking for your attention.

This can be the moment that prompts you to seek the support, guidance and tools you need to understand what is happening, make a change and move your life in a new direction.

Awareness creates possibility.

Action creates transformation.

Fear tells us that what hurt us before will happen again —and that we won’t be able to handle it.

Aligned action gives us the chance to discover something different. With each courageous step, we step out of the trance of fear and into our current reality—often discovering that life is better than we feared, we are more capable than we believed, or both.

A heartfelt mission gives us courage.

When you know what matters deeply to you—and what you want your life to be about—you have something powerful enough to move toward, even when fear is present.

Each courageous step allows you to move beyond what fear predicts and discover a new possibility: a life increasingly aligned with what you truly want to experience.

Intention and energy create the conditions for change.

Neuroscience shows us that the brain changes through intentional, repeated experience. Getting clear about what you want to create is the first step. Practicing that new way strengthens the pathways that support it, until what was once new becomes increasingly natural.

This work is a rebuild, and practice matters.

And the energy we bring to that process is compassion: a supportive, non-judgmental space where you can see clearly, practice differently and create lasting change.

Transformation stages

How we help you design your life

Stage 1. Recognition

What keeps repeating is not random. The pattern surfaces when life makes it impossible to ignore.

It is asking for your attention.

Stage 2. Understanding

We trace the pattern to its roots and understand how it once helped you belong and stay connected to the people you depended on. For a child, connection is survival.

Seeing the pattern with compassion helps you understand why it formed and opens up the possibility that you no longer need to be bound by it.

Stage 3. Conscious Creation

You get clear about what matters most and the life you want to create. That heartfelt mission gives you the courage to take aligned action, even while fear is present. Each step allows you to test what fear predicts against the truth of your current reality and discover what is possible now.

Stage 4. An Aligned Life

New beliefs take root through lived experience. With repetition, what once required courage becomes something you increasingly know and trust in an embodied way.

The building continues as you live: learning from each experience, refining what matters, and making new choices in alignment with who you are becoming. An aligned life is never finished. It is one you consciously create, every day.
