Pregnancy & Postpartum Therapy

Some experiences change us in ways that are difficult to put into words.

Pregnancy, birth & becoming a parent can be among the most profound experiences of our lives.

Every experience is different, with its own challenges and gifts. But there is something about bringing a new life into the world that can ask more of us than we imagined. It can stretch us, challenge us, open our hearts and invite extraordinary growth.

And it can be intense.

Pregnancy and parenthood can bring joy, love and a sense of meaning alongside anxiety, vulnerability, grief, exhaustion, physical discomfort, ambivalence and uncertainty. They can change your relationship with your body, your partner, your family, your identity and yourself.

At The Design Your Life Centre, we provide psychological support through pregnancy, birth and the postpartum period—both for the challenges that can arise and for the profound personal transition taking place.

Becoming a Parent from the Inside Out

Becoming a parent can be one of the most powerful motivations to change.

Suddenly, the fear-based patterns that once helped us survive can take on new significance. We begin to see not only how they affect our own lives, but what we may unintentionally pass on to our children.

Through the Inside-Out Way, we help you recognize these patterns and understand where they came from—how you learned to seek safety, love and belonging, and what you learned about emotions, needs, conflict, achievement and your own worth.

We may be determined to give our children something different from what we experienced. And doing better matters. But there is no faking it with children.

What we do for our children is only part of what they learn from us. They are also learning from how we live.

They see whether we listen to our own needs. How we speak to ourselves when we make a mistake. Whether we believe we deserve rest. Whether we set boundaries. How we respond to fear, disappointment and uncertainty. Whether we continually abandon ourselves to take care of everyone else.

The deeper shift happens when we begin to offer ourselves the same compassion, protection, patience and respect we want our children to know they deserve.

This is the work of reparenting ourselves—not simply so we can parent differently, but so that a different way of being becomes real.

When we change the survival patterns within ourselves, we have the opportunity to change what gets carried forward.

The work can begin with you and reach far beyond you—changing not only your relationship with yourself and your children, but the patterns passed from one generation to the next.

Making Room for the Parent & the Person

Becoming a parent can make it surprisingly easy to disappear from your own life.

Your needs still matter.

We help parents learn to recognize and communicate what they need, establish healthier boundaries, stay connected to important relationships and make room for their own emotional and physical well-being.

The goal isn't to become a perfect parent.

It's to become more present—to yourself, to your life and to the relationship you are building with your child.

Why Choose DYLC for Pregnancy & Postpartum Therapy?

DYLC's founder, Dr. Stacy Thomas, brings specialized training in women's mental health and a deep commitment to conscious parenting.

In 2019 and 2020, she hosted the Mindful World Parenting Summit, interviewing and appearing alongside internationally renowned experts in parenting, mindfulness, neuroscience and holistic health. These conversations helped deepen an approach that integrates psychological science with a broader understanding of human development, relationships and well-being.

At DYLC, conscious parenting is more than a therapeutic philosophy. Some of our clinicians are parents themselves, bringing both professional expertise and lived experience to this work.

Through our Inside-Out Way, we help you address the emotional challenges of pregnancy and parenthood while recognizing and transforming inherited patterns—so you can become more present, connected and intentional in how you care for yourself and your children.
