Fertility Counselling & Therapy

Support for infertility, fertility treatment and the many paths to building a family.

There is the hope, the waiting, the appointments, the decisions and the uncertainty. Your body can begin to feel like a project. Relationships may come under pressure. Pregnancy announcements can stir emotions you never expected to feel. And a life that once felt expansive can begin revolving around cycles, procedures and results.

For people who are used to working hard and finding a way forward, fertility challenges can be especially disorienting. You can do everything "right" and still have very little control over what happens next.

At The Design Your Life Centre, we provide fertility counselling and therapy for individuals and couples navigating infertility, fertility treatment, pregnancy loss, donor conception and assisted reproduction. We also support same-sex couples and people pursuing parenthood independently as they navigate the emotional and relational dimensions of building a family.

About Us

Fertility therapy for infertility and IVF support in Toronto

When something matters this much, it can bring everything to the surface.

Fertility challenges don't just affect the future you imagined. They can touch some of our deepest beliefs about ourselves, our relationships, our bodies and how life is supposed to unfold.

And when something so meaningful feels threatened, the patterns we carry inside us tend to get louder.

The need to control what happens next. The belief that if you just work harder you can somehow make things turn out differently. The instinct to push through pain, take care of everyone else, prepare for the worst—or blame yourself when life doesn't go according to plan.

Some of these patterns were learned early. Some were inherited from the people who came before us. Many developed for good reasons—to help us feel safe, loved or in control.

But they aren't necessarily patterns we would consciously choose.

This Is Where the Inside-Out Way Goes Deeper

What Sets Us Apart

We won't tell you that infertility is a gift or that everything happens for a reason. When something hurts, it hurts. There can be real grief, anger, fear, jealousy, exhaustion and heartbreak here. You deserve somewhere you can be honest about all of it.

But alongside helping you cope with what is happening now, therapy can create space to become curious about what this experience is bringing to the surface.

What happens inside me when I can't control the outcome?

Whose voice am I hearing when I tell myself I should be handling this better?

What have I learned about asking for help, trusting myself, experiencing disappointment or allowing myself to need something?

And perhaps most importantly:

Can I learn to meet myself differently here?

The work then becomes more than finding tools to get through fertility treatment.

It becomes learning how to offer yourself the patience, compassion, protection, boundaries and acceptance you may have spent much of your life looking for outside yourself.

In other words, learning to become your own best parent.

Conscious Parenting Can Begin Before Your Child Arrives

There is something particularly meaningful about doing this work while hoping to become a parent.

Conscious parenting begins with becoming aware of what we ourselves are carrying—what we want to pass forward and what we would rather leave behind.

The patterns we don't examine have a way of travelling with us. The patterns we can see clearly give us a choice.

Doing this work cannot guarantee the outcome you desperately want. But it can change the way you care for yourself through this journey. It can deepen your relationships, help you become more resilient in the face of uncertainty, and allow you to enter parenthood with greater awareness of yourself and the kind of parent you want to become.

That is meaningful preparation for the family you are working so hard to create.

Looking for a Psychological Assessment for Fertility Treatment?

Some fertility clinics recommend or require a psychological assessment before certain assisted reproduction treatments, including those involving donor sperm, donor eggs or donor embryos.

This is a distinct service from therapy. The Design Your Life Centre provides specialized fertility-related psychological assessments for individuals and couples when requested as part of their fertility treatment or family-building process.
